Chakravarthy’s Cricket Career:
After overcoming his injury, he played in the IV Division in Chennai League from Jubilee Cricket Club.
In the 2017-18 One Day seasons, the mystery bowler took 31 wickets in 7 matches at an economy of 3.06.
In TNPL 2018 season, he took nine wickets in 10 matches with an impressive economy rate of 4.70.
On September 20, 2018, he started his List-A career against Gujarat in Vijay Hazare Trophy. He scored 18 runs and also took a wicket in the match. In Vijay Hazare Trophy, Varun took 22 wickets in 9 games with an average of 17.0 an economy rate of 4.23. Later he was selected for Tamil Nadu Ranji Team and made his First-Class Debut.
On November 12, 2018, he made his First-Class debut against Hyderabad in Ranji Trophy. He just got one wicket in the 39 overs he bowled in the match.
International Career:
On an India tour of Sri Lanka, he made his T20I debut on July 25, 2021, against Sri Lanka.
IPL Story of Varun – The Mystery Spinner:
He used to be a net-bowler for CSK in 2018, where he learned a lot from a spinner like Imran Tahir. Later, Mr. A.K. Srikkanth, a video analyst of Kolkata Knightriders (KKR), helped him get him in the nets of KKR.
Punjab Kings (PBKS) bought Chakravarthy for a whopping price of 8.4 crores (INR) ahead of the IPL 2018, the costliest player of PBKS of that season. But the mystery spinner didn’t get many chances to play in that season. He played only one match for them.
Then, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bought Varun for 4 crores at the IPL auction for the 2020 season. He made his debut for KKR on September 27, 2020.
Also, on his 10th match of the season, he picked five wickets for 20 runs against Delhi Capitals and earned the man of the match award.
The frainchisee retained him for the next season and the 2022 IPL.
