Jake’s cricketing journey began at a young age. He started playing junior cricket at the age of 9 at Boroondara Cricket Club. His talent was evident even then, and he quickly rose through the ranks.

Jake’s talent was recognized at the national level when he was named in Australia’s squad for the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. He even scored a brilliant fifty (84 off 97 balls) in Australia’s first match against West Indies.
However, an unfortunate incident cut short his participation in the tournament.
Then, on December 12, 2020, McGurk made his T20 debut for Melbourne Renegades, against Perth Scorchers, in the Big Bash League (BBL).

On October 8, 2023, he scored the fastest List-A hundred off just 29 balls, surpassing the previous record of 31 balls by former South African batter, AB De Villiers.
